2019 High School Classes

Providence Preparatory School aims to provide the necessary classes for our students to progress through their educational career, and ultimately earn a High School Diploma based on the requirements established by the State of Texas.  The classes we offer changes year to year based on the needs of our students.  If the class you are looking for is not listed below, please call Tabatha Carey at 281-389-9647.  

Algebra I

This 2 semester course is designed to follow a study of Pre-Algebra.  Topics covered include equations, integers, powers, roots, graphing functions, systems of equations, and inequalities.  “Teaching Textbooks” curriculum is utilized in this class.  Students will complete a project each semester which applies their creativity and mathematical skills.

Geometry

This 2 semester course is designed to follow a study of Algebra I.  Topics covered include the study of 1-, 2-, and 3-dimensional objects, area, perimeter, volume, proportions, coordinate geometry, and an introduction to trigonometry.  “Teaching Textbooks” curriculum is utilized in this class.  Students will complete a project each semester which applies their creativity and mathematical skills.

Pre-Calculus

This 2-semester course is designed to follow a study of Algebra II.  Topics covered include polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, radial, and trigonometric functions.  Students will also learn matrices, statistics, and analytic geometry.  “Teaching Textbooks” curriculum is utilized in this class.  Students will complete a project each semester which applies their creativity and mathematical skills.

Chemistry

This 2-semester course is a study of the concepts of matter and the interactions between substances.  This course utilizes math to solve problems as well as provides hands-on laboratories to enhance learning.  This class is designed for 9th-10th grade students.  High School Diploma credit is awarded upon completion of both semesters with averages of 70 or above.

 

Physics

This 2-semester course is a study of the concepts of matter and energy.  This course utilizes math to solve problems as well as provides hands-on laboratories to enhance learning.  This class is designed for 11th-12th grade students.  High School Diploma credit is awarded upon completion of both semesters with averages of 70 or above.

 

U.S. History

This 2-semester course is designed for 9th-12th grade students and covers the history of our nation from Columbus’s discovery in 1492 to the current millennium.  Topics studied include the founding documents, national expansion, industry, and our nation’s position in the global arena.  Students will also discuss the Christian Characters of our Founding Fathers and other leaders. Students are expected to participate using critical-thinking skills.  Abeka curriculum is utilized in this class.

 

English

This 2-semester course is designed for advanced 8th grade, and 9th grade.  Topics include writing, literature, root vocabulary, and basic grammar practice, with a focus on the 4 modes of discourse.

Spanish I and II

These courses are taught through Homeschool Spanish Academy.  During a scheduled class time, the student(s) communicate in real-time through “Google Hangouts” with a native Spanish-speaking instructor in Guatemala.  The curriculum is designed for any age-level.  However, Providence Preparatory School suggests students begin these classes at the 8th or 9th grade so that they can earn High School credit for these classes.
